You do not need a manual to chat safely. You need a few habits, repeated every time until they are automatic.

Video is the mode where people overshare without noticing. Check the preview first. A parcel label, a view out of the window, a uniform or a team jersey can give away more than a surname.

Assume anything on camera could be recorded by the other person. No website can prevent a second phone aimed at a screen. That is not a reason to avoid video; it is a reason to keep it to things you would be fine seeing again. The video chat page has the setup side.

Almost every scam in a random chat wants one of three things: money, a click or your account. The stories vary, a stuck payment, a sick relative, a "verification" link, a prize, but the ask is always the same.

Good chats feel easy. When someone pushes, to move to another app, to turn on the camera, to share a photo, to stay longer, that pressure tells you more about them than anything they say. You are allowed to leave any chat at any point, mid-sentence if you like.

The same goes the other way. If a stranger says no, or goes quiet, let them go. The community guidelines are built on that idea.

Get out, then flag it. End the chat, hit report and choose the closest reason. Add a short note if the reason list does not cover it. Blocking stops that account from being matched with you again.

Most bots on any stranger chat give themselves away within a minute. They open with a line that ignores whatever you said, reply instantly with long polished paragraphs, and steer toward a link, a username on another app or a "private page" as fast as they can.

A simple test helps: ask something only a person in the moment could answer, like what they can see out of their window or what they had for dinner. A person answers, badly or well. A script changes the subject. When you spot one, tap next and report it; reports on bots are what get them removed.
